The ingredients needed to make Drumstick and Tomato Rasam:
  1. Prepare 5 glasses water, 2 tomatoes, 1drumstick, 1big lemon size tamarind
  2. Take 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1tsp jeera,1tsp pepper powder,2 green chilli
  3. Prepare Rasam powder 2 tsp, jaggery 2tsp, 1tsp tutmeric, pinch of hingu
  4. Get Curry leaves, coriander leaves, 2tsp chilli powder, 2tsp salt

Choosing Drumstick - Drumstick Rasam taste and flavor is coming form the drumstick flesh. Choose tender and long drumstick which has more flesh. Adding Tomato Puree - I prefer this Rasam to have the dominant flavor of Drumstick, hence i didn't add tomato puree. Ingredients Add to the tamarind extract - tomato pieces, drumstick pieces, salt, hing and turmeric powder.

Instructions to make Drumstick and Tomato Rasam:
  1. Take 5 glasses of water in a vessel, add cut drumsticks n sliced tomatoes n turmeric let them cook for few minutes. Add salt n pepper too.add curry leaves too n let the mixture boil till drumstick r soft.
  2. Soak tamarind in water n extract juice n add it to the boiling water.
  3. Take 2tsp oil in small kadai and add tadka and hingu to oil once spluttering add to the mixture. Add 2tsp jaggery and mix
  4. Add pepper too and let the mixture boil for some time lastly add 2tsp rasam powder to it.
  5. Add rasam powder n cook for few minutes n off the stove. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  6. Rasam powder recipe - 1/2 cup toor dal, 1 cup dhania seeds, 1/4cup pepper, 1tbsp methi seeds, 1tbs jeers, 5 red chillies. Dry roast all and grind to fine powder.

Adding Tomato Puree - I prefer this Rasam to have the dominant flavor of Drumstick, hence i didn't add tomato puree. Ingredients Add to the tamarind extract - tomato pieces, drumstick pieces, salt, hing and turmeric powder. Let this boil until drumstick pieces become tender & raw smell vanishes.
